MAS report - January 3, 2005

MAS launches new chapters in two state capitals

The Muslim American Society (MAS) launched new chapters on January 1, in Austin, Texas, and January 2, in Sacramento, California, with a host of activities.

In Austin, utilizing a “Building A Model Muslim Community” theme, activities included workshops on “Being Civically Active in the Muslim Community: How? Show Me!”; “Working for a Purpose: Leading with a Vision”; and “Developing Bad Habits into Good Habits: A Recipe for Change”. A banquet and fundraiser were also held.

Participants included Imam Siraj Wahhaj of Masjid Al-Taqwa in New York, Muslim American Society Executive Director Dr. Souheil Ghannouchi, and MAS Freedom Foundation Executive Director Imam Mahdi Bray.

In Sacramento, where the theme was “Building Our Muslim Character”, guest lecturers included Wahhaj, Ghannouchi, and Bray, whose addresses were followed by a dinner featuring Imam Wahhaj as the keynote speaker, highlighting the importance of the comprehensive work MAS was doing for both the Muslim community and America.

Wahhaj emphasized that a building is only as strong as its foundation and compared the work at MAS to that of laying a strong foundation from which the whole Muslim community can build upon, emphasizing that the higher the building the deeper the foundation.
